The Independencia station on Line C has been closed since Monday, November 2, and will remain so for about three months, according to Subterráneos de Buenos Aires (SBASE). If you’re transferring to Line E, there’s a special ticket available at three ticket windows.
How to Transfer Between Lines C and E During the Closure

Independencia is the transfer station between the two lines, so the closure changes how you transfer. SBASE indicated that you can request a transfer ticket at the ticket windows of nearby stations:
- San Juan (Line C)
- Moreno (Line C)
- Independencia (Line E)
It’s a good idea to allow a few extra minutes for your usual trip, especially during rush hour. Additionally, Lavalle, also on Line C, remains out of service due to construction.
What construction work will be carried out at Independencia Station?
The closure is part of SBASE’s Comprehensive Renovation Plan. The project, which was already underway outside of operating hours, involves work on the entrances, stairwells (both fixed and escalators), concourses, and platforms. The goal is to improve traffic flow, create a more orderly environment, and provide better lighting at the station.
As with the other renovated stations, the work includes waterproofing, painting, new flooring, LED lighting, and new signage. There will also be Braille signage on handrails and canopies, as well as new platform furniture: benches, trash cans, and seat supports.
What’s the plan for the rest of the network?
With Independencia, the Buenos Aires City Government aims to reach a total of 25 renovated stations. So far, 21 have been completed. Medrano (Line B), Lavalle (Line C), and General Urquiza and Entre Ríos (Line E) remain closed for construction.
Work is also continuing at Alberti, Pasco, and Sáenz Peña (Line A), and at Ángel Gallardo and Dorrego (Line B). Before heading out, you can check the details of the closure in the City Government’s press release.
