If a shop that sells empanadas can be called an “empanadería” and one that sells chocolates can be called a “chocolatería,” why wasn’t there already a shop in Buenos Aires where you could make your own alfajor (that’s right, a shop where you have every possible combination to create your ideal alfajor)—and thus become Buenos Aires’ first alfajorería?
Buenos Aires has an alfajor shop in Palermo where you can build your own alfajor: you can create up to 360 varieties by combining different cookies, fillings, and toppings
It’s called Fajor, and it’s the first alfajor shop in Buenos Aires dedicated 100% to letting you design your perfect and favorite alfajor from scratch. It doesn’t get any more Argentine than that!
The only alfajor shop in Buenos Aires is in Palermo and offers a unique, original, and super-interactive experience for those with a sweet tooth.
What’s it like to create your own alfajor, step by step?
The journey toward the perfect alfajor—the perfect alfajor for you and no one else—starts right at the counter. First, you choose the cookies, with a wide variety of artisanal options (a bonus is that they offer gluten-free cookies).
Next, you move on to the filling station, where you can play it safe with dulce de leche or quince paste, or take a chance on options like red berry cheesecake or ganache. If you don’t want to think too hard, you can simply order one of their “Favorite Combinations,” such as the coconut and lemon alfajor filled with white chocolate ganache and passion fruit.
Once it’s filled, the visual magic begins: they dip it in the chocolate of your choice and let it set right in front of you. But the best part comes at the end with the decoration station, because the toppings are completely unlimited. You can add Oreo crumbs, Rocklets, fruit, and anything else you want without paying a single peso extra, no matter how much you add.
To enjoy this experience, you have two options: you can make one giant 8-cm alfajor for 8,200 pesos, or take home three 5-cm mini alfajores for the same price. Both options already include unlimited toppings.
Giant cakes, trending fruits, and options for sharing
If you’re going with a group or with someone who wants to try a little bit of everything, at Fajor you can also have lunch or an afternoon snack; their menu includes cakes, coffee and tea, dark chocolate fondue, and even towers of 24 assorted mini alfajores. Have you ever tried or given someone an alfajor brunch as a gift?
A key tip for saving money if you go with friends is that the slices of cake—which are homemade—are also huge. You don’t need to order one slice per person because you can share and no one will ever go hungry.
